We pulled out from Marin, pointing the car north. North to Boonville to visit friends and then on to the Redwoods--both at Humboldt State and then the National Park near Jedidiah Smith. The trees are massive; the forests cool and damp; and the trails mostly deserted. And we were lucky: no rain!!
We hiked several trails, including one 15 mile "strenuous hike" to an abandoned firelook out station that about did us in. We also rode our bikes through the Avenue of the Giants -- continually amazed at the size and number of HUGE trees.
