End of the Road -- Ely, MN

It is the end of the road -- but also the beginning of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (Superior National Forest) -- one of the most heavily used Wilderness areas in America.   Every vehicle has at least one canoe "on top";  behind every bush there lurks a lake; and fishing is done all day and all night.  Last year we began to hear stories about Ely and for once, we have not been down the wrong path!

If ever you get a chance -- experience Ely & the the Boundary Waters.  Fabulous views & hidden vistas are around every bend.

Every camp site provides a view!  And a breeze!  And a chance to fish & swim!  And swat bugs!
But remember:  ALL portages are uphill in both directions.

Eagle keep an eye on the portage

Fall Lake -- we camped lake side in lovely spot.

Lunch time & later a swim spot.

Get your permit early!  Favorite spots are open via a lottery only.

Bass Lake -- small water fall in front

LOTS of frogs.  No moose No where.

The most bizarre mushroom I've every seen.  Very firm to touch.

Room with a view on Little Dry Lake

Where next?

Loon.  Loon.  Loon.  No lake will be the same without their calls.
At every location in Minnesota we have heard them calling.  Really special.
