North Dakota

First stop in North Dakota -- the Fargo Visitor's Center -- complete with a wood chipper.  A sense of humor here in this agricultural mecca and the fracking frenzy state.

We found Ft Abraham Lincoln State Park near Bismarck that features both the Mandan Indian Culture and the days of the calvary/infantry from the Indian Wars.  Indeed, General George C Custer left from Ft Abraham Lincoln on his ill fated journey west.

The Mandan Indians were very welcoming to Lewis & Clarke on their journey.  They wintered with the Mandan in North Dakota both coming & going!

Interior of earthern lodge.  Note the sled & snow shoes on post on right.
Buffalo bunks in rear.

Earth lodge homes.  Front structure is a "water tower" reminder of a flood myth.
This is on the bluff above the Missouri River.

Custer's Home.  Decorated inside in period pieces.
