Swell Day for Moving!

On the move--the whole of the Sea of Cortez was underway today. The week long norther blew itself out last night and we awoke early to a gentle breeze, out of the East, off Isla San Jose. Could it be? And would the seas/swell be down enough for a comfortable ride up the way?

We were one of the first boats to pull up the anchor, and figured if it were too lumpy we'd tuck into another anchorage about 8 miles north. But oh, we were in luck. The channel was flat, the sun was shining, and we were moving. The morning passed: off came the jacket & scarf. I actually wore my BATHING SUIT and we had to do double applications of sun screen as we are still quite the white folks.

By late morning we encountered the northern swell -- not enough to slow us down but a swell for sure. Other boats seemed to venture out from every safe haven and soon the radio was crackling with calls and discussions of where to tuck in "out of the swell." We passed by 2 spots and made into Aqua Verde. This is one of our favorite spots and surely it feels like "home." 80s in the cabin and sunshades are up for the first time in months.

And along the way: SEA LIFE! Like I said, everything was moving. We estimated we saw 1,000 dolphins, 40 whales, and 1 turtle. And lots of grebes learning to swim and then dive for cover. We were watching the whales -- they were a ways off and heading south when suddenly: WHOOSH. Like in, where is it?!? Right there on our stern only a couple of hundred yards off! Good thing they don't munch on catamarans. I thought Magic is big, but OH MY these guys/gals are HUGE!

We are here for a few days and then....well, you just never know!
