Islamic Art

Mosques dot the city scape here much as temples did in Thailand.  But honestly -- they are not nearly as intriguing.  And since non-Muslim women are not so welcome, it just is not that inspiring to explore.

The National Mosque of Malaysia is quite pretty.  The mosque's "dome" has a beautiful blue pleated roof; the minaret is more traditional but also features pleats.  Apparently the design is to mimic an umbrella -- open & closed -- since everyone in Malaysia carries an umbrella.

Next door to the Mosque is the Museum of Islamic Art.  The building and the collection were excellent and predominantly featured Islamic Art from China, India, and Malaysia to coincide with the cultural heritage of Malaysia.

And then...well...it rained.

National Mosque accommodates 15,000 for prayers.

Better idea of the color of the roof

The Museum is a really beautiful building -- famous for its domes.
